Golden hour is never guaranteed, especially with British weather, but I keep an eye on the conditions throughout the reception. When the light begins to look particularly good, we can step outside for ten or fifteen minutes before returning to the celebration.
Cloudier evenings can be just as atmospheric. Softer light, dramatic skies and the open countryside can create photographs with a completely different feel while still showing the character of the setting.

Rain does not prevent the wedding from being photographed naturally.
The historic building gives us an atmospheric indoor setting for the ceremony, reception, speeches, and candid moments between guests. Its architecture and character mean the photographs still feel connected to the venue even when everyone remains indoors.
When the weather changes, I avoid letting a rigid photography schedule take control of the day. We can use shorter dry spells for confetti, group photographs or a few portraits rather than keeping everyone waiting for the forecast.
The grass, rural paths and country lanes may also require a little flexibility after prolonged rain, so it is useful to bring suitable footwear if outdoor portraits are important to you.
