The Venue sits separately within the hotel grounds and is available for exclusive-use weddings, giving couples and their guests a private space overlooking the coastline. Its large windows and bi-fold doors bring the views into the reception room, while the surrounding terraces, gardens and cliffside setting create plenty of variety without needing a long journey away from the celebration.
It can work equally well for couples planning a larger wedding or something much smaller. Sandy Cove offers celebrations ranging from elopements and intimate midweek weddings to full daytime and evening receptions. The hotel accommodation also means couples and guests can stay onsite, allowing the celebrations to extend beyond only the wedding day.

Alongside the gazebo is Sandy Cove’s Glass-Sided Skywalk Platform, which extends out over the cliff.
It can provide a striking location for a few photographs immediately after the ceremony, particularly while guests are beginning the drinks reception.
Outdoor ceremonies naturally depend on the weather, but Sandy Cove has the advantage of being able to make the final decision close to the ceremony time rather than committing to the indoor option too early.

The Seascape Ceremony Room has floor-to-ceiling windows overlooking the sea and surrounding landscape.

This gives me the opportunity to photograph the parts of the day couples do not always see for themselves: guests meeting for the first time, children exploring, friends laughing together and family members quietly taking everything in.
These unscripted moments are often the photographs that become more meaningful over time.

There are several options for couple photographs around Sandy Cove Hotel, and the right location will depend on the weather, timings and how long you would like to spend away from your guests.
The clifftop grounds provide immediate views across the bay, while the terraces, gardens and exterior of The Venue offer alternatives closer to the celebration.
Sandy Cove Hotel also has a private beach reached through the grounds by woodland paths and cliff steps. When the weather, tide, access and wedding timeline allow, the beach can create a completely different set of photographs surrounded by rocks, sea and the wider coastline.
A beach visit should always be treated as an optional part of the day rather than something you must do. We can discuss whether it makes sense for your plans, footwear, mobility requirements and the amount of time you want to spend away from your guests.
What Happens if It Rains?
Rain does not prevent you from getting beautiful photographs at Sandy Cove.
Daisy & Andrew’s celebration is a great example of how Sandy Cove Hotel can still photograph beautifully when the wind and rain arrive.
The indoor ceremony room retains the coastal view through its floor-to-ceiling windows, while The Venue itself offers plenty of natural light and space for documentary photographs throughout the reception.
Short gaps in the weather can also be used for a few quick outdoor photographs without keeping you away from your guests for long. Because I am familiar with the venue, we can adapt the plan as the conditions change rather than deciding everything in advance.
The aim is not to force the day to follow a photography schedule. It is to work with whatever happens and make the most of the atmosphere you actually have.
Sunset and Evening Photographs
Toya & Simon’s wedding shows just how striking the coastal light can be when the sunset appears over Sandy Cove.
The light at a coastal venue can change quickly. On some wedding days, the sky becomes soft and hazy. On others, the wind, clouds, and changing weather create something much more dramatic. Both can photograph beautifully.
Rather than building the entire wedding schedule around a fixed sunset session, I keep an eye on the conditions throughout the day. When the light looks particularly good, we can step outside for a short walk before returning to the celebrations.
The Venue also looks brilliant after dark, when its interior lighting contrasts against the evening sky and coastline. This can be a good opportunity for a final outdoor portrait before the first dance or later in the evening.
