A Quantock Lakes Wedding Photographer
Quantock Lakes is one of those venues where the layout makes a real difference to how the wedding day feels.
Set within 200 acres at Inwood Farm, the venue combines three barns, open countryside and lakeside views, all with the Quantock Hills in the distance. The spaces are connected but each has its own purpose, so the day can move naturally from ceremony to drinks, wedding breakfast and evening party without everyone constantly travelling between locations.
I photographed Tilly and Lewis’ wedding here, which gave me the chance to experience the venue across a full day, from morning preparations in The Farmhouse through to the reception, drone photographs and golden-hour portraits around the grounds.
That day also showed me how much variety there is within the venue itself. The barns have very different light and atmosphere, while the open areas around the lakes give couples plenty of portrait options without needing to disappear from their guests for long.
My approach is relaxed, candid and documentary-led. I’ll guide you when it helps, but most of the day is about letting the wedding happen naturally while I capture the people, energy and moments around you.

A Wedding Venue Built Around the Lakes
The lakes are obviously one of Quantock Lakes’ most recognisable features, but what makes the venue work is how they sit within the wider layout rather than feeling like a separate photo spot.
The barns, lawns, accommodation and open countryside all connect around the central wedding area, giving guests a sense of space without the day becoming fragmented.
That works brilliantly for documentary photography. I can move between different groups of guests, catch conversations by the water, photograph activity around the barns and still remain close enough to the main celebration.
The wider landscape also means the gallery can move from intimate indoor moments to broad countryside views without leaving the venue.
The Three Barns at Quantock Lakes
One of the most useful things to understand about Quantock Lakes is that the venue is built around three main barns, each serving a different part of the wedding day.
Rustic Barn
The Rustic Barn is the main ceremony space for most weddings and currently seats around 110 guests, with the venue licensing it for larger numbers where required. After the ceremony, it can be transformed into a more relaxed snug area with seating by the fire.
The exposed beams and warmer interior give the ceremony photographs plenty of character while keeping the room feeling intimate.
Meadow Barn
The Meadow Barn is used for the wedding breakfast and is one of the brightest spaces at Quantock Lakes.
Its large windows allow loads of natural light into the room and bring the lakes and surrounding countryside into the background of the celebration.
Photographically, that is really useful because speeches, table details and guest reactions can still feel connected to the setting outside.
Quantock Barn
The Quantock Barn acts as the main hub of the venue and becomes the central evening party space later in the day. It also houses the main bar and can be used as a larger ceremony room when guest numbers exceed the Rustic Barn’s capacity.
By the evening, this is where the atmosphere usually shifts into full celebration mode, with the lighting, bar and dance floor creating a completely different feel from the ceremony earlier in the day.
Wedding Ceremonies at Quantock Lakes
Quantock Lakes offers a few different ceremony options depending on guest numbers, weather and the style of wedding you are planning.
Ceremonies in the Rustic Barn
The Rustic Barn is the main indoor ceremony space and works particularly well for weddings where couples want a warm, characterful setting.
The timber beams, softer lighting and more intimate scale give the room plenty of atmosphere without needing much additional decoration.
From a photography perspective, I can work quietly around the edges of the space and capture the entrance, vows and reactions without constantly moving through the room.
Larger Ceremonies in the Quantock Barn
For weddings with larger guest numbers, the Quantock Barn can also be used for the ceremony.
Its greater scale gives couples more flexibility when they are inviting well over 100 people, while still keeping the ceremony within the same connected venue layout.
The photography naturally feels broader here, with more guests and a larger room to work with, but the focus remains on the couple and the reactions happening around them.
Lake Pontoon Ceremonies
During the summer months, Quantock Lakes can also host ceremonies on the Lake Pontoon when the conditions are suitable.
The venue has quite specific weather requirements for using the pontoon, including low rain probability, warm temperatures and limited wind, with the final decision made by the venue team.
When the conditions are right, it gives the ceremony a completely different feel, with the water and countryside becoming part of the setting from the very start.
Getting Ready at The Farmhouse
The Farmhouse is one of the strongest parts of the wedding-morning setup at Quantock Lakes.
It sleeps up to 18 guests and includes a dedicated bridal-preparation area, hot tub and sauna. It is also connected to the venue by a private passage, allowing the wedding party to enter the main venue discreetly before the ceremony. Tilly got ready here with her closest friends and family, and the natural light worked brilliantly for preparations.
For me, those morning photographs are less about staged detail shots and more about the atmosphere building around the wedding: people helping one another, last-minute nerves, champagne, laughter and all the little moments before everyone heads towards the ceremony.
Drinks Receptions and Candid Photography
Once the ceremony is finished, Quantock Lakes gives guests plenty of room to relax without becoming too spread out. The barns, lakeside areas and outdoor spaces all sit close enough together that conversations and groups naturally form around the venue.
This is usually one of the strongest parts of the day for candid photographs. I’m looking for:

Having photographed a full wedding here, I know there is no need to spend a huge part of the day chasing different photo locations.
A short walk around the lakes and grounds can give us plenty of variety before you head straight back to your guests.
Couple Photographs Around Quantock Lakes
The venue gives us several different portrait options within a relatively short walk.
Close to the barns, we can use rustic walls, pathways and more structured spaces. Move slightly further out and the photographs begin to open up around the lakes, fields and wider countryside.
For Tilly and Lewis, we kept things relaxed and used the softer evening light around the grounds rather than turning portraits into a long formal session.
That is generally how I prefer to work here. I’ll give you enough direction to feel comfortable, but most of the time we are simply taking a short walk and making use of whatever light looks best at that point in the day.
Golden-Hour Photography
The open setting around Quantock Lakes can be especially beautiful later in the day.
Tilly and Lewis had gorgeous golden light across the grounds, which gave us the perfect opportunity to step outside for a few quieter portraits before returning to the celebrations. Because the landscape is open, evening light can travel across the fields and water in a way that gives the photographs a completely different feel from the middle of the afternoon.
I never promise a fixed golden-hour session because British weather has other ideas far too often. Instead, I keep an eye on the conditions. If the light starts doing something special, we can step outside for ten or fifteen minutes and make the most of it without interrupting the party for long.
Wedding Breakfasts and Evening Celebrations
The Meadow Barn gives the wedding breakfast a very different feel from the ceremony.
Its larger windows bring in plenty of natural light and keep the countryside visible around the room, which means the photographs still feel connected to Quantock Lakes rather than becoming purely indoor reception images.
During speeches, I’m not only photographing whoever has the microphone. I’m watching the tables for the laughter, tears, glances and reactions happening around the room, because half the story is usually happening away from the speaker.
Later, everyone moves into the Quantock Barn for the evening. The bar, dance floor and darker atmosphere give the photographs much more energy, and this is where the day usually shifts from a relaxed countryside celebration into a proper party.
What Happens if It Rains?
Quantock Lakes is particularly well set up for unpredictable weather because the main parts of the day can all happen indoors.
The Rustic Barn, Meadow Barn and Quantock Barn each have a clear purpose, so the ceremony, meal and evening party do not lose their atmosphere if everyone needs to remain inside.
The large windows in the Meadow Barn also mean the countryside can still form part of the photographs even on a cloudy or wet day.
When shorter dry periods appear, the outdoor areas are close enough that we can quickly step outside for family photographs or a few relaxed portraits.
The Lake Pontoon naturally has stricter weather requirements, so couples considering an outdoor ceremony should always have an indoor plan they are equally happy with.

Accommodation is a major part of the Quantock Lakes experience.
The venue currently offers several accommodation areas across the site, including The Farmhouse, the Wedding Village and The Granary. Together, the wider venue promotes sleeping capacity for around 60 guests, with most wedding parties staying for two nights.
The Farmhouse sleeps up to 18 guests and is particularly useful for wedding-morning preparations.
The Wedding Village is made up of converted barns just a short walk from the venue, while The Granary offers additional bedrooms alongside facilities including a pool, hot tub and BBQ lodge.
That can make the whole celebration feel more like a wedding weekend than a single day. Guests can arrive the night before, settle in together and wake up already onsite, which reduces travel and helps the morning feel much less rushed.
How I Photograph Weddings at Quantock Lakes
My approach is relaxed, natural, candid and documentary-led.
For most of the day, I’m watching what is already happening rather than creating situations purely for the camera.
That might be nerves in The Farmhouse, reactions during the ceremony, friends laughing beside the lakes, guests getting emotional during speeches, or the chaos that starts once everyone reaches the dance floor. I’ll still guide you when it helps. Family photographs benefit from a little organisation, and I’ll give you enough direction during portraits so you never feel awkward or unsure what to do.
