The Mill House Wedding Photography - Matthew & Michaela
When Matthew first got in touch, I couldn’t believe it had been 18 years since we last saw each other. Now here he was, planning to marry the love of his life, Michaela, and raise their beautiful daughter, Wren. It’s not every day I get to photograph a friend’s wedding, especially one that means this much.
Fast forward to their stunning day at The Mill House on the Isle of Man, and I had the absolute honour of not just capturing their big day, but properly catching up after all this time. The venue, the people, the energy - it all came together so naturally. Even with a bit of rain in the mix, the whole day felt full of heart, laughter, and that one sprinkle of golden hour that made everything glow.
A Rainy Start That Made It All the More Romantic
Sure, the skies opened up at one point, but instead of it dampening the mood, it actually made the day feel even more special. Matthew and Michaela didn’t flinch; they laughed, embraced it, and carried on enjoying every moment. It’s always a privilege to photograph couples who just lean into whatever the day throws at them.
Celebrating with Their Daughter, Wren
One of the most meaningful parts of the day was seeing little Wren right there in the thick of it all. Her name is just as lovely as she is, and she brought so much joy to the day. Photographing a wedding that’s not just about two people, but their family story, is something I’ll never take for granted.
Golden Hour Glow on the Isle of Man
Just when we thought the rain had taken over, the clouds parted and gave us the most stunning sprinkle of golden hour. The light was soft and golden, wrapping around Matthew and Michaela like something straight out of a film. These are the kinds of moments that make a photographer’s day completely unplanned, but absolutely perfect.
The Kind of Catch-Up You Don’t Forget
Getting to reconnect with Matthew after nearly two decades added such a personal layer to the day for me. I even got a shout-out in his speech, which nearly set me off. It’s amazing how weddings bring people back into each other’s lives, and it reminded me exactly why I love doing this job.
Crumble Bar, Tunes, and Pure Joy
From the epic food (including a crumble bar!) to the brilliant energy on the dance floor, the evening part of the day did not disappoint. Everyone was up for a good time, and the atmosphere in the room was just full of warmth. The music, the laughter, the shared memories, it's what weddings are all about.
Here’s a look at the rest of their beautiful day…
This one meant a lot to me… not just for the photos, but for the people, the moments, and the memories we got to make together.
