Kingscote Barn sits in a wonderfully secluded part of the Cotswolds, surrounded by fields, rolling hills and wide countryside views.
The stone barn gives the day plenty of character, but what I particularly enjoy about photographing weddings here is the amount of space around it. Guests can move naturally between the barn, terrace and grounds, while couples can step away for a few photographs without needing to travel anywhere or disappear from the celebration for long.
I’ve photographed three real weddings at Kingscote Barn so far: Joanna and Mark, Izzy and Andy, and Siobhan and Nicholas. Those weddings have given me experience of the venue across different seasons, weather conditions and styles of celebration, from autumn colours and soft overcast days to lively receptions and evening portraits beneath the lights.
That familiarity helps me know where the day naturally flows, which parts of the grounds work well for family photographs and where we can find quieter spaces for couple portraits without turning the wedding into a photoshoot.

Why Kingscote Barn Works So Well for Barn Weddings
Kingscote Barn is a beautiful barn wedding venue in the Cotswolds, surrounded by countryside views and full of character. The restored 17th-century stone barn gives the day a warm, relaxed feel, while the outdoor spaces and surrounding landscape give couples plenty of options for natural portraits.
For barn weddings, Kingscote Barn works so well because it has that lovely balance of rustic charm and comfort. Guests can move through the day easily, the setting feels relaxed, and there are always candid moments happening naturally. My approach is to capture that atmosphere honestly, from the ceremony and speeches to the hugs, laughter, portraits, and evening celebrations.
A Secluded Cotswolds Barn Setting
One of Kingscote Barn’s strongest features is the feeling of being properly tucked away in the countryside.
The venue is surrounded by open fields and rolling Gloucestershire landscape, which means there is very little visual distraction around the barn itself. From the moment guests arrive, the day feels contained within its own little part of the Cotswolds.
That makes a real difference photographically. Wide countryside views can give the gallery a strong sense of place, while the stone walls, timber details, garden paths and more enclosed corners around the venue create plenty of variety closer to the barn.
It also means couples do not need to travel elsewhere for portraits. Everything from family photographs to quieter couple images can happen within the grounds before you return to your guests.

Kingscote Barn allows couples to keep the main parts of the wedding together in one place, with the ceremony, reception and evening celebrations all taking place onsite.
Ceremonies Inside the Barn
The stone walls, timber beams and long room give indoor ceremonies plenty of warmth and character without needing the space to feel heavily styled.
From a photography perspective, the layout allows me to capture the entrance, vows and reactions around the room while remaining as unobtrusive as possible. At both Izzy and Andy’s and Siobhan and Nicholas’ weddings, the closeness of the guests made those reactions a really important part of the ceremony photographs.
The barn also photographs beautifully before guests enter, when the chairs, flowers and lighting are all in place, and the room is still quiet.
Ceremonies Inside the Barn
The transition from ceremony to celebration works particularly well here because guests can move straight outside onto the terrace and surrounding grounds.
That gives us a natural opportunity for confetti before everyone settles into the drinks reception. The stone barn behind the couple and the countryside beyond it create a strong backdrop without needing to organise a separate location.
At Izzy and Andy’s wedding, their exit from the barn became one of those energetic moments where the reactions from guests were just as important as the couple themselves

The grounds around Kingscote Barn are ideal for the part of the day when everyone finally begins to relax.
Guests can spread between the terrace, lawns and outdoor spaces while still remaining close enough that the drinks reception feels connected. This gives me plenty of opportunity to move quietly between conversations rather than organising people unnecessarily.

At Siobhan and Nicholas’ wedding, their family and friends were involved throughout the day, which created loads of natural moments without needing anything to be staged.

Having photographed several weddings here, I know that you do not need to spend a large part of the day away from everyone to create a varied gallery.
Often, five or ten quiet minutes around the grounds can be enough. Siobhan and Nicholas are a good example of that: just before their group photographs, they wandered away together for a few minutes and those completely unplanned moments became some of my favourite images from their day.
Couple Photographs Around Kingscote Barn
The open countryside is one of the main reasons Kingscote Barn works so well for relaxed couple photographs.
Close to the venue, we can use the stone walls, pathways, fencing and landscaped areas for photographs with a little more structure. Walk slightly further towards the edge of the grounds and the photographs open up into fields, rolling hills and wide Cotswolds views.
At Siobhan and Nicholas’ wedding, they wandered towards the edge of the venue and ended up beside the fencing overlooking the surrounding fields. The photographs worked because the moment happened naturally rather than because we had planned an elaborate portrait session.
Izzy and Andy’s autumn wedding gave us something completely different, with golden trees, rustic stone and seasonal colour becoming part of the portraits.
I’ll give you enough direction to feel comfortable, but the aim is always to let the setting work around you rather than asking you to perform for the camera.
Golden-Hour and Evening Photography
The open landscape around Kingscote Barn can become especially beautiful towards the end of the day.
Because there are wide views across the surrounding countryside, changes in the evening light can quickly transform the feel of the grounds. On brighter days, we may get warm light across the fields. On more overcast evenings, the open sky and landscape can create softer, quieter portraits instead.
I keep an eye on the conditions rather than fixing a long sunset session into the timeline.
If the light looks particularly good, we can step outside for ten or fifteen minutes and then head straight back to the celebrations.
Kingscote Barn also offers good opportunities after dark. Siobhan and Nicholas’ wedding included a silhouetted evening portrait beneath the lit wooden pavilion, showing how the venue can still give us something distinctive once the countryside itself has disappeared into the darkness.
Inside Kingscote Barn
The barn becomes noticeably warmer and more atmospheric as the wedding moves into the evening.
Stone walls, exposed timber and strings of lights create a very different look from the bright countryside photographs earlier in the day. That gives the gallery a natural visual progression without needing to move between different venues.

Izzy and Andy’s reception was a brilliant example of how lively the room can become, with guests lifting the couple into the air and the dance floor staying busy throughout the evening.
Siobhan and Nicholas’ evening had the same sort of energy, with singing, dancing and plenty happening beyond just the scheduled first dance.
What Happens if It Rains?
Kingscote Barn does not rely entirely on its outdoor spaces to look good in photographs.
The stone interior already has plenty of character, so ceremonies, drinks, speeches and candid photographs can continue indoors without the day suddenly feeling like it has moved into a plain backup room.
When the rain eases, we can use shorter gaps for group photographs or a quick walk outside rather than asking everyone to wait around for perfect weather.
The surrounding landscape can also work beautifully under softer skies. Siobhan and Nicholas’ portraits beneath a wide grey sky show that the countryside does not need bright sunshine to photograph well.
I prefer to adapt around the weather rather than allow a fixed photography schedule to control the wedding.

How I Photograph Weddings at Kingscote Barn
My style is relaxed, natural, candid and documentary-led.
For most of the wedding day, I am looking for what is already happening rather than creating situations purely for the camera. That might be someone becoming emotional during the ceremony, friends laughing outside over drinks, a parent reacting to a speech or guests doing something completely unexpected on the dance floor.
I’ll still guide you when it helps.
Family photographs benefit from a little organisation, and most couples appreciate some gentle direction when we step away for portraits. But those parts of the day should feel quick and easy rather than becoming the main event.
Having photographed three weddings at Kingscote Barn means I’m familiar with the open grounds, indoor ceremony space, countryside portrait locations and the way the barn changes from daytime into the evening.
That experience helps me make use of the venue without constantly interrupting the celebration.
